The Impact of Auditions
As performers, we can all recollect those moments when we auditioned for important positions. We have all experienced auditions that were smooth and comfortable, and also those that were simply nerve-racking. Whether we are the ones being judged as artists, or we are the ones who judge for our own ensembles, one thing is certain: integrity and respect in auditions is of utmost importance for the prosperity of our profession. When we have the privilege to develop our rising musicians, it is our responsibility to critique honestly, be encouraging, and provide them with effective tools for improvement. Helping performers flourish and seeing them pass along their knowledge to younger generations is one of the many rewarding aspects of our profession.
